Individual Counseling

People choose to work with counselors for help with:

1) challenging situations
2) unwanted or unhelpful behaviors
3) bothersome or distracting thoughts
4) troubled feelings
5) becoming their own best self.
6) a vague or intense sense that “something is not right”

Highly skilled counselors are equipped to assist students with a wide range of personal concerns. In a trusting and confidential setting, a student may wish to examine issues such as gaining independence, managing new relationships, balancing academic stresses, or about making meaningful career decisions.

Other students struggle with severe problems stemming from childhood, critical life events such as a recent loss or trauma, or with finding meaning and fulfillment in their lives.

Intensive counseling or psychotherapy may be especially helpful for you if you exhibit problems such as:

Depression
Eating Disorders
Obsessions and Compulsions
Intensive Anger
Alcohol/Substance Abuse
Copying with HIV or other illnesses (self or other)
Anxiety
Low Self-Esteem
Conflicts with Partner or Family Member
Self-Defeating Behavior
Thoughts of Harming Yourself or Another
Dealing With an Abusive Relationship
As with individually distressing concerns, there may be other difficulties in forming and maintaining relationships. Many times, while struggles with interpersonal concerns can be addressed in Individual Counseling, Group Counseling may be more immediately applicable.
